Designed for permanent installations in cemented driveways, the 71525 includes such features as a Shatter Guard backboard, a spring-back Slam-It Pro Rim, and a Power Lift pole mechanism for speedy height changes.

The goal's sturdiness stems from the cement-ready base, which is more rigid and takes up less space than portable basketball goals (it does require roughly 72 hours of cement drying time, however). The clear 54-inch Shatter Guard backboard, meanwhile, is made of Makrolon polycarbonate, which is virtually unbreakable and 30 times stronger than acrylic. But while a portable system may ultimately be your best choice, there are reasons you may want to consider an in-ground or wall-mount system before you decide.

In-Ground Systems
In-ground systems are permanently cemented into the ground--either via a bolt mounting kit or directly into the ground--and are generally more rigid and take up less space than portables. I purchased this for my husband on our first anniversary back in May 2011. He had a friend come over to dig the hole and setup the preserve post- then left it sitting covering for two months. Finally, this past weekend, he and his brother terminated the installation- and we've all been enjoying it since. From what I observed, the hoop without fail requires two adults with a basic sense of how items go together. I'd say the hole/pole setup was about 2-3 hours (including digging) and the final stage another 3-4 hours- generally because the "directions" as I looked at them were just a list/diagram of parts- so half the time is spent identifying parts. In fact, my husband ran to the store thinking one screw was missing only to find it in a distinct box when he came back- though luckily a basic Home Depot/etc. Store carries all the parts so you won't necessarily have to write to the manufacturer if something is missing (though you may of course want to). I in particular love the height adjustment feature- which you can indeed turn with two fingers (I tried) and which is great when a ball gets stuck or you need to work on the backboard. Overall, we're very pleased with this hoop- even if the backboard is less than regulation; as my brother-in-law said it just military the shooter to be more accurate.
